My name is Robert Buchheister. I’m 30 years old. I live in North Port Florida. I have Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida at level L3-L4. I’ve had 56 surgeries so far in my life time. I am a full time wheelchair user. Growing up, I was in and out of the hospital. The doctor who delivered me told my parents that I would live to only the age of 3. At age 11, I had spent two months in the hospital due to a staff infection.
I came close to losing that battle three times in a period of two months. I also spent 4 months in a nursing home at age 24 because of a pressure sore. When I finally got to go home, I had a in home care nurse for a short time before deciding to have the pressure sore surgically closed.
In my spare time, some of the things I like to do is spend time with family, go swimming and play Pokémon go on my phone. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone just assumes that you are not capable of do things just because you use crutches, braces and or wheelchair. I was raised to do anything I am capable of doing.
