My Sierra

Hey Everyone! My name is Naomi Nugent . On January 18, 2004, I was 18 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. At my ultrasound is when I found out my daughter Sierra had SB. This was after all my blood tests came back NEGATIVE . On the next day, I had an appt with Dr. Key in Great Falls MT whom did a more indepth ultrasound and gave me ALL prospects for Sierra.

I went from a "normal" pregnancy to a high risk pregnancy. It was a tough pregnancy for me . I was dignosed with Protien S deficiency. So, as well as Sierra being watched, I was watched carefully every month of the pregnancy. On January 18, 2004 I was told Sierra had Hydrocephalus. On January 19, 2004 I wa told I was going to be having a C-section for the safety of my baby. That was ALOT to take in that week .

Other than constant appointments , and watching her grow (which was really cool to watch in all the ultrasounds) everything went well . My son, her older brother kept all the pictures of "his baby" that they printed off for him at every ultrasound. He was 19 months old at the time . On May 20 2004, Sierra was born via c-section . Sierra came into this world weighing in at 6lbs 13.4 oz and 22 inches long. I was 36 weeks 2 days pregnant with her at that time.

Sierra had back closure surgery before she was 12 hours old. Then Sierra had a shunt placed by 1 day old. Sierra has been cathed since birth. She has a neurogenic bladder. Sierra’s legion is L4-L5 Myelomeningocele . We did not qualify for the fetal surgery ( it would have possibly harmed or killed both of us).

Sierra waa born with Vertical Talius of her left foot . It was surgergcaly corrected when she was 8 months old, and she had her right foot surgically corrected two years ago on June 11, 2016.

Sierra will be 14 in May. Sierra is doing very well in school . She is mainstreamed and has been kindergarten. I am so happy at how well she is doing in school. Sierra also walks with KAFOs and walkers. She knows I will help her if she needs it , but she is very INDEPENDENT! Sierra has a smile that lights up a room!
