I found out I had Spina Bifida after I gave birth to my son at the age of 22. When I was told that by a chiropractor when I was in a lot of back pain.I continued to work and deal with what ever happened along the way. I am now 55 with 2 grown children and 3 grandsons who are my world. I live by myself after a divorce and a few abusive relationships and the loss of my boyfriend suddenly in August.
I keep myself busy with knitting and crocheting and I try to do almost everything by myself but I do have a lot of friends and my daughter who are close by to come and help me if need be. I am not in a wheelchair or use any other way around I still have the use of my legs and you would not know I have Spina Bifida just by looking at me.
I do have pain 24 hours a day and take medicines for it. I do have a younger brother that also has Spina Bifida who is going to be 45 in February that is in a wheelchair and doesn't have the use of his lower body. Like everyone else I have my good days and bad days and wish the pain would go away, I do what I can and sometimes it takes me all day to do the laundry or clean house .But that is probably the best most of us are.
