I’m Cynthia, I am Julio Cesar Vasquez’s mother. I found out Julio had Spina Bifida when I was 5 months pregnant. It has been rough the past 13 years for Julio and our family, but to me the struggle is all worth it !
Julio was born at 36 weeks with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele and Chiari 2 malformation in San Antonio Texas at University Hospital . Julio received a Trache at 8 weeks old. Why you ask ? Because his brain was not sending the signal to breath so he got a Trache and a gtube.
At the age of 3 months old, Julio contracted a infection in his blood and he passed away for a few but the doctors were able to bring him back to life . At 6 months old , he contracted another infection and passed away and was brought back to life once more .
So far in his life time , Julio has had 11 shunts revisions and he has a sirynxs in his spine. To help Julio stay strong and healthy , he does therapy 3 times a week.
We drive 2 and a half hours to his appointments and yes it’s all worth it ! We are very thankful Julio is still here with us ! We are very bless to have him in our life! When he is not going thru dr appointments or therapy sessions , Julio loves to go to school to learn and play softball .
